disliked his arrogance were just shattered when he
got that Fordham thing. It was very public and
there was a lot of money—at least what seemed
like a lot of money associated with that
appointment—so they were very resentful. They
couldn’t understand—when The Mechanical Bride
came out in ’51— they couldn’t understand why
people would take these popfulminations because
again they failed to, to read it as poetry—at least
that’s my personal analysis.
